A renowned entrepreneur and angel investor with over 20 years of experience in telecommunications entrepreneurship and investment, credited as the pioneer in introducing magnetic card telephones and Nokia mobile phones to the Chinese market.
In 1993, he departed from Hutchison Whampoa Group in Hong Kong to establish Cheung Yeung Telecommunications. In 2000, Cheung Yeung Telecommunications Group successfully launched its IPO in Hong Kong. By 2003, Cheung Yeung Group was honored as the 6th among China's Top 100 Technology Enterprises. In 2004, Mr. Lau was listed in the Hurun Fortune 500. In 2012, he founded Eagles Fund. Since 2014, he has also served as a partner at DFJ Dragon Fund / New Dragon Holdings in China.
Starting from 2015, he has continuously received honors such as "China's Most Active Angel Investor," "Top Ten Young Investors in China," and "Top Ten Angel Investors in Shanghai."
In 1992, he invested in Beijing Tongcheng Promotion, China's earliest subway lightbox media company, which later changed its name to "Media Century" and went public on the Hong Kong Growth Enterprise Market in 2002. In 1999, he invested in Hong Kong Pacific Century CyberWorks (the earliest B2B e-commerce company), which was listed on Nasdaq in 2000 (PACT).
He has served as an entrepreneurship mentor at the Torch Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Vice Chairman of Angel Union, Vice Dean of Zhongguancun Angel Growth Camp, mentor for the Yajie Chamber of Commerce's Cradle Plan, and entrepreneurship mentor at Peking University Guanghua School of Management.
He graduated from the Faculty of Business Administration at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1988 (currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors of New Asia College at CUHK), and holds esteemed degrees including a Master of Information Technology from the National University of Ireland and a degree in Venture Capital from Harvard Business School.
